BMW X3 (F25) Service & Repair Manual: Oil pressure/oil temperature/oil gauge

• Removing and installing/replacing oil level sensor for engine oil (N47 D20 O1)
• Removing and installing/renewing oil level sensor for engine oil (N55)
• Removing and installing/replacing engine oil pressure/temperature sensor (N20, N26)
• Removing and installing/replacing oil pressure sensor (N52T)
• Removing and installing/replacing oil pressure sensor (N55)
• Removing and installing/replacing oil pressure switch (N47 D20 O1)
• Replacing engine oil level sensor (N52T)

Removing and installing/replacing oil level sensor for engine oil (N47 D20 O1)

IMPORTANT: Read and comply with notes on PROTECTION AGAINST ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD PROTECTION) .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

• Switch off ignition
• Remove front UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Drain ENGINE OIL .

Unlock connector (1) and remove.

Unscrew nuts.

Remove oil level sensor (2).

Installation note:

Clean sealing surface on oil sump.

Replace seal on oil level sensor.

An excessively low torque value will result in oil leaks.

An excessively high torque value will result in damage to the oil level sensor.

Top up engine oil.

NOTE: Check stored fault messages.

Delete fault memory.

Removing and installing/renewing oil level sensor for engine oil (N55)

IMPORTANT: Read and comply with notes on PROTECTION AGAINST ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD PROTECTION) .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

• Switch off ignition.
• Remove REINFORCEMENT PLATE .
• Drain ENGINE OIL .

Unlock connector (1) and remove.

Unscrew nuts.

Remove oil level sensor (2).

Installation note:

Clean sealing surface on oil sump.

Replace seal on oil level sensor.

An excessively low torque value will result in oil leaks.

An excessively high torque value will result in damage to the oil level sensor.

Top up engine oil.

NOTE: Check stored fault message.

Delete fault memory.

Removing and installing/replacing engine oil pressure/temperature sensor (N20, N26)

Special tools required:

• 34 5 160

Necessary preliminary tasks:

• Switch off ignition.
• Remove THROTTLE VALVE ASSEMBLY .

WARNING: Risk of burning! Only perform this repair work on an engine that has cooled down.

Unlock connector (1) and remove.

Release engine oil pressure/temperature sensor (2) with special tool 34 5 160 .

NOTE: Add final details to vehicle Check engine oil level. Top up engine oil if necessary.

Removing and installing/replacing oil pressure sensor (N52T)

WARNING: Risk of burning! Only perform this repair work on an engine that has cooled down.

Necessary preliminary work:

• Remove ACOUSTIC COVER

Installation location:

Oil filter housing, front left.

Engine oil may emerge when oil pressure sensor is replaced; have a cleaning cloth ready.

Release connector (1) and remove.

Release oil pressure sensor (2).

Installation note:

Check oil level, top up engine oil if necessary.

Removing and installing/replacing oil pressure sensor (N55)

Necessary preliminary work:

• Switch off ignition.
• Remove IGNITION COIL COVER.

WARNING: Risk of burning! Only perform this repair work on an engine that has cooled down.

Installation location:

Oil filter housing, front left.

Engine oil may emerge when oil pressure sensor is replaced; have a cleaning cloth ready.

Release connector (1) and remove.

Release oil pressure sensor (2).

NOTE: Add final details to vehicle Check oil level: Top up engine oil if necessary.

Removing and installing/replacing oil pressure switch (N47 D20 O1)

IMPORTANT: When working on the oil, coolant or fuel circuit, you must protect the alternator against dirt contamination.

Cover alternator with suitable materials.

Failure to comply with this procedure may result in an alternator malfunction.

Necessary preliminary work:

• Remove INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING .
• Remove INTAKE PORT .
• Remove left TRAILING LINK .
• REMOVE left partition wall for units compartment.

NOTE: The oil pressure switch is located beneath the high pressure pump.

IMPORTANT: A small amount of engine oil emerges when oil pressure switch is removed.

Have a cleaning cloth ready.

Release connector and remove.

Release oil pressure switch.

Installation note: Replace sealing ring.

Reassemble the vehicle.

Check engine oil level.

Replacing engine oil level sensor (N52T)

IMPORTANT: Read and comply with notes on PROTECTION AGAINST ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD PROTECTION) .

Necessary preliminary work:

• Switch off ignition.
• Remove REINFORCEMENT PLATE .
• Drain ENGINE OIL .

Release connector (1) and remove.

Unscrew nuts.

Remove oil level sensor (2).

Installation note:

Clean sealing surface on oil sump.

Replace gasket on oil level sensor.

An excessively low torque value will result in oil leaks.

An excessively high torque value will result in damage to the oil level sensor.

Top up engine oil.

NOTE: Check stored fault message.

Delete fault memory.
